Yeah I have always heard it termed as “a numbing agent” sort of thing. And Digest is pronounced the same (at least where I live?)
First there is digest as in how you digest food, then there is digest as in Reader’s Digest. I assume the number you are thinking of is as in one, two, et cetera. The other number is where the b is silent, and it means more numb. Though that one, admittedly, is less widely used, to say the least.

The word “pumpkin” actually derives from the alternative dimunitive version of the word “pumpion” and “pompone”, which in turn is derived from the Middle French word meaning “melon”.
