To this day I have no idea how those neck pillows are supposed to be used.

A neck pillow provides no support for your neck while sleeping in an upright seat. I’ve tried them before, still woke up with just as much neck cramp/shoulder pain as without.

Although sleeping in any way on my left side does also cause my left shoulder to partially dislocate itself, so there’s that too…

Neck pillows are supposed to be VERY thick, thick enough to literally prevent your head from falling to either side. At least, that’s my personal experience for the best sleep with a neck pillow.
