That’s true of every pony generation frankly. The ‘80s G1 cartoon is it’s own separate canon too, and so was the “MLP Tales” show. It’s nothing new or unusual.
 
Just like how the Batman or TMNT movies, cartoons, comics, and such are separate.

By that definition, nothing new will ever be canon. FiM is over, has its own things canon to it, now we’ve moved on to a different universe with a different canon, and we will likely going to do so every time we switch to a new generation. I have not seen a single person who is trying to place Pony Life in the same universe as FiM.
