I still strongly dislike Sunset for how poorly she was handled in he first two Equestria Girls flicks. (and no, it has nothing to do with my liking Glim Glam.) it doesn’t help that some of her fans made me ever more sour towards her. (if it bothers or discomforts anyone that I don’t like her, then too bad; that’s their problem, not mine. and they should keep mum about it, too–evenmoreso if they rag on me for fawning over characters they hate, which gives them far less reason to dogpile on me.)
 
her characterization in Friendship Games was just intolerably mean-spirited: her running Sci-Twi through the mud in their every encounter when it was pretty clear Twi had no ill intent when she experimented with and studied the magic seeping into her world. sure, she messed around with what she sholudn’t’ve, but you can’t really blame her for her enquiry. (should make one wonder if Sunset was just being a hypocritical a-hole and forgot that she abused magic herself.) made worse by the fact she didn’t apologize to Twi at the end (no “I’m sorry I was a jerk to you. I should have known better.” or anything to that extent), thus giving me the impression that she was in the right for hurting someone (remember: two wrongs don’t make a right). worst of all, she didn’t have any qualms as Twi broke down into tears right then and there. all that is why I feel both girls should be incompatible with each other. hell, Twi had better chemistry with AJ throughout the movie!; why was she instead paired up with Sun in Legend of Everfree?? how can anyone watch all that and be okay with that?!
 
I am sorry for being a little dipshit, going around rambling about my hateboner and roughening you guys up. I am only expressing myself as I haven’t been able to before. if you like the Shim, then more power to you. I have no problem with that–as long as you’re civil and rational about it. please respect my thoughts and opinions on her, okay? just don’t force me to like her or attack me, and I won’t get needlessly defensive.
 
and to those Sun fans whom I’ve upset with my inflammatory nonsense, I am sorry. I feel bad for responding the way I did without asking for it. I wish I had been more respectful to you.

In fairness, they toned down Amy in recent times, made her less “obsessive,” and less bratty, and kinder.
 
Sally had a few overly-emotional moments in the comics, which is partially why she became controversial, but granted she was going through alot of crap at the time, (such as her father trying to force her to mary Antoine) so I don’t really blame her, and she gradually started to become more like her old self again, and a strong character too.
 
So alot of characters aren’t perfect, (not even Starlight or Sunset) but I prefer imperfect characters.

I don’t really like Amy in most cases cause her “feelings” for Sonic, almost downright make her look psychotic at times.  
Sally I like cause she was never super out of control, at least in the cartoon I saw.  
Maybe it’s different in the comics.

Well, I rarely see Starlight fans that hate Sunset, but yeah I don’t get it… It reminds me of Amy Rose fans that feel they have to hate Princess Sally, or Sally fans that hate Amy, in the Sonic fanbase. (So apparently, this thing is common in other fanbases, and it’s almost always with female characters.)
 
I actually admit, I used to hate Starlight, but I got over it… I guess seeing all the immature Starlight-haters kinda convinced me to give her another chance, and while she’s not my favorite character, I actually enjoy her now, especially her friendship with Trixie, and she’s a good foil for her, Sunset, and Twilight,

I think I even saw some claiming it was it a hypocritical to like both.now they may not be exactly the same but they’re not total opposite of each other.

It goes both ways for quite a few people, actually.
 
If you’re a Sunset Shimmer fan, you have to hate Starlight Glimmer.
 
If you’re a Starlight Glimmer fan, you have to hate Sunset Shimmer.
 
I originally hated both.
 
Sunset is now my favorite character in general when it comes to MLP.  
Starlight’s in my Top 15.
 
Mainly it’s just people being stupid.  
Like I once was, cause I considered Starlight too similar to Sunset originally as well. (I was 17 when Season 5 started, so I was quite stupid.)
 
As the years have gone by, I got a chance to reflect on both their characters more, the only thing similar is their names.  
That’s where the similarities end, pretty much.
 
Both their backstories were handled poorly, Sunset’s is completely unsalvageable unless you know her comic, and even then it’s still kinda bleh for just how bad the reformation was (and how stale her character was subsequently in Rainbow Rocks, Friendship Games is better just for the fact alone Sunset has an actual character, any Rainbow Rocks fans can fight me)
 
Starlight’s is handled in a way that can do one of two things.
 
Only give you the most basic of info, which just seems a bit lazy, or if you look into it deeper, it makes you misread it entirely.
 
Based on how Season 5 ended, it makes you think more like everything happened ONLY because Sunburst left her.
 
Sunburst leaving her only made her spiral into depression/edgy teenage years as revealed in Season 8, which was then followed by her deciding to take over an entire village somehow as being depressed long enough likely drove her a bit insane, so she did this to cope. From there, Twilight and the Mane 6 arrived, and took the village from her, and THAT is what drove her to become completely unhinged and nearly destroy Equestria. But the way it was told, it makes it feel more like just Sunburst leaving her caused EVERYTHING. It could have been told better. But all in all, looking deep enough, you realize that she was just a victim of separation anxiety, and her life spiraled downhill. Her dad being the way he was, most certainly didn’t help either.
 
But all in all, both are good characters.  
It’s stupid to hate one just cause you like the other.

They are infact teens in EG but not MLP FIM that’s what some people don’t understand because they like to link the two together even though that writers and devs of MLP have established MLP FIM ponies as grown adults and not teens. As far as I see it, if the 2 characters are both adults. Then theres no reasons anyone should be calling it pedophilia. That’s a dangerous and wrong label to just throw out like that so freely and loosely to stuff it doesnt even apply to, to begin with. Plus the fact that Fluttershy didn’t get in the scouts because she was “to old” should have clued them in. That and the rest of gen 4 and even PL

It’s even proven if you look at the CMC. The pony CMC are gradeschool kids, while the human ones are older, and freshmen, meaning they’re teenagers.
 
And yeah, while not a DiscoShy ‘ship fan, (I prefer them as friends) my parents are actually born 10 years apart, (though met when they’re both adults) so there actually are couples with decade-spanning age gaps, but both are still legal age.

I don’t know. The writers have already said that the Equestrian Girl’s world in age wise does not apply to Fim many years ago. Also, they all have their own jobs and places and yet Fluttershy has looked to be the oldest. I don’t have a problem with people who don’t ship it. I just think it’s stupid and close minded when people call them Pedophilia and just complete ignore Sparity just because they ship Discord or Fluttershy with someone else. So, the only go to is to call it pedophilia even though that doesn’t apply to them as they are both grown adults. Already proven and established by Laurem Faust on deviantart and Meghna McCarthy on a panel. Where she shot down Sparity and confirmed their ages. Pedophilia applies to an adult who has a thing for a child. Fluttershy is not a child, she is a grown adult. Most likely the oldest of the mane six to. especially since the episode where the CMC turn into adults and they established good and well that Fluttershy is a grown adult as well. Because the CMC needed an ADULT to take them. And they went to Fluttershy plus FIM MLP pretty much proves they are not teenagers if you just look at what they own and have. It’s pretty obvious. I can’t believe they think the writers would allow that shit on the show if it actually WAS pedophilism anyways. That’s just their false opinion? (It’s also a huge insult to victims of actual pedophilia, I’m actually a victim myself and seeing people throw labels like that just because they don’t ship it is inexcusable and disgusting and wrong.)

Why do people even think they are underage children anyway they’re not in school they have jobs and they live on their own in both shows
