Christmas was adopted by the church, so one could argue that it isn’t really a “Christian” holiday.
 
Technically, Christmas wasn’t adopted by the Christmas Church.
 
It’s a Christian holiday, but the date of December 25 was adopted because at that time, it was the date of the Winter Solstice, and as such they could co-opt all Pagan Solstice festivals and make them about Jesus Christ instead, encouraging Pagans to convert to Christianity.
 
What I find particularly hilarious is how modern scholars believe that the birth of Christ probably happened sometime in 4 BC. That is, Christ was born in the 4th year BEFORE THE BIRTH OF CHRIST.
 
Really, religious historians? Really? :P
