a headcanon that every single one of a pony’s joints is the the same type of joint that’s in your shoulder and hips (where the arms/legs connect to the torso) and can rotate on all three axes in something of a 180-degree (hemispherical) range. It can move in a circle AND twist
 
there are other types of joints, like the saddle joint (where your thumb connects to your hand, can rotate on two axes but not the third. i.e; can move in a circle but CANNOT twist), the hinge joint (your elbow, can rotate on one axis only) and a couple more
