i think that cannon is some type of world war 1 75mm british howitzer, and the pony has a british trenchcoat on
 
and the fact ithat the gun is in a crater means it was hit with a cannon shell but the clothing on the skeleton is not ripped so either the gun was hit or near hit with an artillery shell and then the pony ran in but was killed or the crater was made for the defense of the gun but if that was the case then there should be barbed wire or sandbags around the gun
