This totally looks like “desperate pep talk to cheer Dashie up”… It doesn’t help knowing the sickeningly competitive nature of the rainbow gal. Rarity at least got gold.  
That said, did they give Dash a trophy as best athlete of the year? The Principals were announcing it.
 
If the pep talk was from Shimmer instead, who got shit, poor gal… A bad script - the aesop is half lost when the Mane 7 win their soccer match, IMHO - for Pencils’s awesome work.
