Washing your hands is very important, but hand-washing alone isn't enough to avoid contracting SARS-CoV-2 and acquiring COVID-19. The virus is airborne or droplet-borne and spreads very quickly through aerosols and/or droplets, and most people who got sick with it have picked it up from other people's air, not from touching contaminated surfaces. The minimum safe gap between people to avoid getting sick with it is not 3 feet. It's 15 feet. Asymptomatic people can carry it and infect others, and infected people become infectious to others within 12 to 24 hours, and remain infectious during the entire incubation period, which averages 1 week but can last almost 4 weeks. N95 half-face masks and surgical masks are insufficient. Only full-face P100 respirators or full-face 40mm NATO CBRN respirators are adequate. The virus can enter through the eyes.
