He probably makes her smile. She can be a bit snarky it seems. And she needs some light for her.

Well, he had a cutie mark in the last episode, so in a human years could be 10-12. Luster Dawn looked old as Twilight in the first season, so around 16-18. Sure she is older, but not so much.

p.s. I know that age comparison between ponies and humans are pretty inconsistent, but in the canon could work.
