I don’t think they’d make love like two rocks. more like dumb animals. regular deer don’t talk much, and they still manage to get pregnant every year. it probably just happened on impulse. like a bunch of deer who live and fuck like normal deer, but never battle over territory, or clash horns, or anything. you can still do things even if you don’t feel anything, otherwise you just sit around starving to death like the miranda colony.

I actually always figured that they were a hybrid species between dragons and ponies and thus infertile. After all, even when we saw Autumn’s recap of the events preceding their decision to become silent, there were no young present there either.
 
Not that they necessarily need to reproduce at a regular rate to keep the species alive. If they share any characteristics with the dragons of MLP (a reasonable assumption since the mythical creature they’re based on did too, in some traditions), they’d likely have a very long lifespan compared to regular ponies.
 
… But then I might be overthinking it a tad.
