It’s much worse. Hazel and Bigwig at least had their core character traits intact in the cartoon. Even season 3, when the show went insane, was better than the Netflix adaptation.

Yeah, that definitely does not retain the spirit of the original with completely different characterizations and eventually it just drops even telling the basic story of Death Note and tells a complete different one.

That’s exactly how I felt about Netflix’s garbage-awful adaptation of Watership Down. It started bad and then went to Hell from there. And then they went and added several tons of padding to the final episode, slowing the Efrafa section to an interminable crawl. Characters were assassinated in the name of creating cheap artificial drama. Good character moments and even entire character arcs were thrown away and the whole thing was just trash from top to bottom.

Theatrical cuts are lame in this case. They also cut out the death of the slimy guy from the Hobbit in the third movie. I only saw the extended version, so I locked out there.

@Meanlucario

What I still don't get to this day is that in order to address the lack of that sequence, they moved up Saruman's death scene to the final battles… except that this was still cut from the theatrical version so he just seems to vanish there.

We also saw the Scouring of the Shire in the first movie, with one of Frodo and Sam's motivations being to prevent it. It was in the movie, but much shorter and used as motivation rather than another battle at the end.

Also, in the books expanded material the elves still participated in the War of the Ring. Lothlorien was besieged three times. And Galadriel herself destroyed Lothlorien.
If you'll forgive my correction, I think you meant to say is Dol Guldur. Because it was Dol Guldur (the stronghold Sauron recovered his strength at following his defeat at the hands of Isildur) that Lady Galadriel destroyed, not her home kingdom.

@Ponylooker
But more to the point, because it isn't in the book, adding it wastes precious time that could have been used for important things that didn't make it into the films. Hello, The Scouring of the Shire?
While I admit it's a little disappointing that part was left out of the film, I'm not sure I entirely disagree with the decision to do so. It's a great part of the book, no question, but even without whatever scenes you might think are superfluous, so much of the third movie ends up being about Sauron finally sending his armies forth to wage war, and the battles leading up to it, and the preparation for the battles leading up to it, that having them destroy the ring and win the day and then having it turn out there's yet another little fight remaining? It's kind of hard not to make something like that seem tacked on, and equally difficult go from that sudden buildup back into action (with all the character reveals and plot twists that go with it), to the ending you were already kind of naturally moving towards beforehand.

@Ponylooker
The Scouring of the Shire was unnecessary. Sauron was destroyed. The war was over. Dealing with Saruman, who is a nobody at this point, was a waste of time. He is no threat to the rest of Middle Earth. Like with Tom Bomidal, that is another thing I'm glad Peter Jackson left out of the books.

Funny how you keep going over plot points added in the movies as "unnecessary" and waste time, yet ignore that Tolkien was guilty of doing the same.

I feel for ya Twilight. I also like that we see Serena and Marie again! They look like good pals. They were in that class together too earlier in the series. I love Serena's look too! Super adorbs.

@phat_guy
I am glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. :) Barry and Berry… as well as Liquified Poop … Movie. I am curious as to what the trailer would be. Also a lot of the movies look really really bad, lol.

To be fair, my objection to Aragorn "Bumbles Bounce" going off the cliff is largely "it isn't in the book!" But more to the point, because it isn't in the book, adding it wastes precious time that could have been used for important things that didn't make it into the films.
