I suspected this was case and they confirmed it when I asked them about it.
According to the wiki they’ve said it’s set after RR. I assume means it’s canonically after but should have been before. Or maybe they changed their minds since.

It’s seem’s too central to the story to be a last minute addition. Most likely they had only the trailer on synopsis to work off of. The comic’s script was locked Sept. 8.
your current filter.Rainbow Rocks came out Sept. 27. They couldn’t fix the comic to account for that. Remember that we fans were also caught off guard with how completely RR redeemed Sunset.

We’re not denying the comic does takes place after RR, just that it should have been and would make more sense if it was prior. Out of curiosity how do reconcile it taking place after RR with the rest of the continuity besides the journal suggesting otherwise (the comic claiming it was Sunset’s first sleep over despite having one in RR, everyone so quick to turn on Sunset and going so far to frame her only making sense prior to proving her redemption)? Because the journal was more central to the story and harder to come up with a rationalization for?
It’s been a while since I’ve read that comic but I will call her talking to twilight being in the actual story
That’s likely a last minute addition, similar to Starlight Glimmer’s cameo in the movie despite its script being made during season 4.
