Description

It’s not just Twilight Sparkle and her friends that write letters to Princess Celestia. In Equestria, many ponies write to the Princesses for all kinds of personal reasons. Both Princess Celestia and Luna get lots of letters every day.

In the Canterlot Post Office, there are around 40 “Dear Princesses” who read these letters and writes replies. Equestria has about 5 million ponies, and on average, each pony writes 20 letter to the princesses in their lifetime, giving about 2000 letters every day. Each of the 40 Dear Princesses handles 50 letters everyday. If it takes 8 hours, that’s 10 minutes per letter. However, the amount of attention paid to each letter is very uneven.

Around half of all letters are simple “today I learned a valuable lesson about friendship”, sent by school colts and fillies, and those are replied using pre-constructed template letters. The Dear Princess simply opens a drawer and takes the right template letter, fill in a few personal touch-ups (using a writing-magic to change a few words, fill in a few blanks, perhaps a small doodle), and then file the reply letter to the “finished” pile, which would be sent by the end of the day.

Some other friendship letters are sent by grownups. Much like Twilight Sparkle, even grownup ponies would get friendship lessons, and they often commemorate significant life events by writing to the princesses. A few of the Dear Princesses (“Princess Heartmenders”) specialize in replying to heartbreak letters. Often a local social service would be notified, and a social worker would visit the pony in distress to help them.

And there are some mails that are just extremely weird, creepy, unclassifiable… but to see them, you would have to watch the video by Whipper Snicker!

Every day/night, before Princess Celestia/Luna go to bed, they would read a few select letters and give a personal touch in the replies. Often it’s just a personal signature, but in rare cases they would write a reply.
