  1. IIRC in that story, she came across the Storm King after leaving Equestria and then decided to join him, the same way Tempest did.
  2. At the time of the Canterlot Wedding, she wasn’t Princess of Friendship yet (I never said the story took after this picture, she’s still a unicorn in that one), so her taking her friends turning their backs on her badly wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility at that time.

But she can’t reject herefriends, ran away from home, and join the Storm King’s Army because she didn’t know about the existence of the Storm along until he arrived in Equestria as he begin to invade the kingdom starting with its capital of Canterlot with Tempest petrifying nearly all four of the alicorn princesses that we’re overthrown by the Storm King. She can’t end up like Tempest because of what she did between the second and third act of the film. She’s the Princess of Friendship.

I’ve seen a story on Fimfiction where, following the Canterlot Wedding debacle, Twilight rejects her friends and leaves Equestria to join the Storm King army.

This premise could lead to an interesting story, but it doesn’t make much sense with canon up to that point. I think this sort of outcome would require Twilight to suffer significant personal trauma, such as the permanent loss of the mane six (death or broken)
