In fairness, “Cuphead” isn’t really too kid-unfriendly, but it’s surreal retro-cartoon craziness, dark-comedy, and crazy grinning boss designs might be a li’l unsettling for some kids, especially considering the villain is the devil.
 
Not to mention, it’s kinda a Contra-style retro arcade-style shooter, and some parents think any game with shooting is “inappropriate for kids,” regardless of the fact there’s no guns in the game, or anything too “violent.”
 
Heck, as a kid, I had a friend who’s grandmother thought the original Super Smash Bros. was “too violent.”

You get ads, but not personalized ones. They’re not allowed to collect data on people watching kids videos- stuff like what someone is interested in and what they were just doing on the internet 5 days or 5 minutes ago. They usually use that data to personalize the ads you get. This makes them more tempting to an individual, as they can take advantage of exactly what kind of ads will manipulate a user through their personal weaknesses. However, they can’t on kids’ content, because that violates their privacy at too young of an age for them to consent to having their privacy violated.
 
Somehow it’s okay to implicitly consent to removing our individual privacy by using websites that buy and sell and use our data for their own means if we’re 13 or older, yet we can’t consent to sexual relations til 16+, vote or die for our country til we’re 18, or have a beer til we’re 21.
 
There’s something fundamentally wrong and ironic about this, but it’s the system we have.

Yeah. I think it’s cause there’s one other image from 2 years ago that’s a YouTube kids shit thing but not a COPPA thing. They’re technically 2 very different things that just happen to usually overlap, but not always. Hence, both tags.

Yes, that’s true, assuming their videos don’t actually meet the “for kids” definitions. Individual videos that are for kids will still have the comments locked down. I have like 1 or 2 videos on my channel like this one I didn’t change back to “not for kids.” It’s because they were too sfw and kid-friendly and kid-appealing. I figured they met the “for kids” requirements.
 
And if somebody has 1 or 2 videos like that where they are for kids then they can’t, in good conscious, click they whole channel setting that says they never make content for kids, or they could get in huge trouble. So 1 video that is for kids on an otherwise not for kids channel means that the channel owner had to go through all their videos and click individually on each whether or not they are for kids. :/

Perhaps you misunderstood. When a YouTuber marks their channel as not for kids, comments on all their individual videos come back, and new comments can again be left directly on the video.

i’ve seen mentions of dr. wolf’s videos having that problem as well as a couple of videos involving some form of weaponry (phineas and ferb’s song “weaponry” as well as a loony toons clip that was removed from actual airing due to the use of a gun (by slowpoke rodrigez (i spelled that wrong but still)) being rendered “for kids” apparently

The worst part is that comments made years ago on things like MLP audio dramas are now lost forever, since it’s impossible to reasonably claim that they’re not kid-friendly.

And exactly as helpful.

Could be worse. At least content creators have the option to mark their channels as “not for kids” and thereby re-enable comments.
