To be fair. He knows nothing about Spike, a baby dragon who has no history/documented feats(beyond winning a guantlet, not sure if they even mentioned it when he just passed on that scepter to Ember). But her second point has more weight.
 
I will agree with your other point. IDW loves sticking dragons (and griffons) in odd places when both races are typically xenophobic.
