In the NMM timeline, it would be better on what if, much to Celestia's horror, the stars moved on their own to free NMM regardless. As if the stars gained a will of their own upon resonating with Luna's sorrow/rage/bitterness and moved to eventually free her.

Honestly I feel like this made Luna's banishment worse since she could have been freed at anytime but destiny apparently had her wait a 1000 years for someone to pop up(Twilight Sparkle).
I bet Harmony even counted on Luna snapping so she could be used as a "starter villain" for that plant's "chosen one".

It also messes up NMM's threat on she couldn't get out AT ALL would have been stuck up there if Twilight didn't pop up.
Having the stars bit not being of NMM's will just messes things up for her.

It just.. doesn't seem right.

A recent work showcases the duality of Celestias' manipulations in the way of stripping her 4-year old Alicorn Daughter of her horn and immortality, along with stripping her name from everypony elses memories before banishing her from Canterlot: all because she had a prophecy telling her that if her daughter was pained by magic in her heart: she could turn evil and bring darkness over Equestria…

Turns out a day after Celestia committed the deed (and a day before Luna was scheduled to return), Celestia learned that the prophecy was actually self-fulfilling: because Celestia used the Elements of Harmony against her own daughter and threw out forever. Unwilling to go find her daughter to try and apologize, and too afraid of any potential backlash should the rest of Equestria begin to view Celestia as a cruel tyrant that tortured and tormented her own sister and daughter were they to find out, she simply didn't raise a hoof and planned to make Twilight Sparkle a princess instead to fill in the hole within Celestias' heart.

And who was this wayward daughter of Celestia? This lost and forgotten Alicorn?

It was Cozy Glow.

Yeah, or some complained she's "overrated," or dislike her because she "doesn't do anything, but is loved anyway," and such.
Some were even happy over the Derpy censorship drama, or lack of Derpy appearances in S3, or mocked the "Save Derpy" crowd just to be contrarians.

Similarly, I see people bash Luna for also being "overrated," or hate her in response to the Celestia-bashing from Luna/Nightmare Moon fans, and such.

Ah yes, another "bash Celestia just for the sake of bashing Celestia" thread. Because criticizing Luna is against the rules of bronydom.

Ironically, I've seen fans criticise, or bash Luna before, or are upset that she gets more episodes then Celestia.

I agree it doesn't fit the direction the show when, but it fits her intent (Celestia as an effective trickster guile hero) at the time which is why its relevant.

HEADCANON: Celestia used a device like from "Between Dark and Dawn" to control the moon during Luna's banishment (using a drawn off portion of Luna's power or the portion that let Celestia brute-force it in a way that avoided the normally prohibitive strain), but since it couldn't control the stars, as such was unimportant, they changed over the 1000 years because they weren't being magically maintained. Once Luna returned it wasn't worth the confusion it would cause everyone at present. They both could control the stars directly if they wanted.

Only the stars that added in NMM's escape were being controlled. NMM would have eventually used them to escape per the prophecy, but Celestia triggered it sooner for the sake of her plan. Hence the timeline NMM took over even when Celestia would't have had the reason to trigger it.

NMM taking over so much later would explain why Equestria hadn't suffered the apocalyptic consequences Faust and logic states would happen, yet. As for NMM stating years have passed 1. zero days would have passed since eternal night so who's keeping track save a dubiously sane NMM 2. Equestria's years being far shorter would explain why nopony visibly aged over the series which has to be accounted for if putting what's observed over writer intent.

In Cutie Re-Mark, the NMM timeline is actually doing pretty well, suggesting that either the equestrian ecosystem is impossibly hardy and perfectly capable of running on just reflected moonlight or that the sun and moon are interchangeable magical BS. I'm going with the second one.
