I realize the comments recently replied to in this thread were ancient, but I’d still like to answer BP 5BCF’s question properly since I have a background (both personal and professional) in this area.

US children (it might be different now, this research was from a couple of decades ago) take a while to learn racial constancy (e.g. the idea that putting a headdress on does not transform you into an Indigenous American, or realizing that Black children grow up to be Black adults). Those facts usually don’t sink in until they’re around ten years old. This is very surprising to most people, but it’s largely because we don’t talk about issues of race with children and even hide these concepts from them. On the other hoof, kids learn the idea of gender constancy (e.g. if somepony puts a skirt on you that does not automatically make you female) even before they can talk! This is because we strongly sex-type children in this country: we have segregated toys, segregated play activities, segregated bathrooms, and so on.

Consequently, nearly all three year-old children understand that society in general doesn’t approve of cross-gender behaviors, and if you’re trans this often internalizes as shame when you’re still really young. Most people who are transgender know they’re trans before puberty, though most of those who have those feelings at a young age bury the thought as deep into their subconscious as possible. I’ve known something was wrong as far back as I can remember, but when I was eight I saw on television a story about a princess whose memory was missing and had magically been turned into a boy to hide her, and it horrified me because I instantly knew.

So it’s not an unrealistic idea for Li’l Cheese to know they are trans, provided their parents allow them to express themself openly—and I think Pinkie Pie and Weird Al Yankahorse most definitely would.

They don’t have to to eventually experience what would be the effects of having intersex chromosome, which I’ll add has about the same rate of occurrence as being red haired. In any case: there are adults who go about life not realizing it either but may in some way feel something off. They then might go get an operation and find that whole they have male genitalia they also have a fully functioning uterus. Other chromosomal abnormalities may also effect the way puberty works and the hormonal imbalance that would almost certainly be in effect by this time would contribute to something like confusion when the what you feel does not click with what you are told.

I don’t even know if little kids actually know what chromosomes are or can even grasp the scientific concept at such a young age—I’m talking ages 3 to 7—(hell, I didn’t even learn what they were in-depth until my high school sophomore year biology class), but fair enough.

I’m totally fine with Pony Life being Friendship Is Magic GO!; TTG! is a dumb fun spinoff series that can be taken or ignored on its own merits (or lack thereof), without taking anything whatsoever away from how awesome Teen Titans ‘03-‘06 was. Anyone who wants a dumb fun version of FIM will have a few years of new content before G5 rolls out, and anyone who hates it doesn’t have to pay any attention to it because it doesn’t affect FIM in any way.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure they don’t go on an image with Pinkie using a yo-yo and complain about “using a children’s cartoon to push yo-yo behavior in our faces”.
 
The entire argument against images like these is predicated upon the belief that being trans is a bad thing. There’s no disguising that.

I’ve seen the comments on images like this, here and elsewhere, and I’m pretty sure their reasoning doesn’t go any further than “hating trans people and getting super mad any time they’re mentioned”.
