More openness is good. No one needs canonicity anyways. Rarijack in EqG and Appledash in FiM are still open choices, but they’re just that - choices. (Could just as easily throw in Rarijack in FiM since that’s the one with actual development.)

Keep in mind, up until Faust left mid S2, Rainbow was for all intents and purposes, straight. She took off with two male Wonderbolts and said “I’ve got plans!” and aside from having a little tension with Applejack and Fluttershy, she was interested in stallions. In fact Rainbow was the least ambiguous when it came to her preference the only other at the time being Rarity. Just because Applejack denied love does not automatically make her a lesbian. And Faust’s original wish was for Rainbow to end up with Soarin. (Look on her deviantart page of fyre-fly for proof) Hell, if she were still in charge and not a creative consultant ala Matt Groening on The Simpsons she would have likely gotten her way. In fact I don’t even think Faust, considered same sex relationships outside of possibly LyraBon least of all with the mane six.
 
The ending is up to the viewer. If you want to say Rainbow has a thing for and married Applejack, more power to you. But treating it like fact, when it’s ambiguous, doesn’t help AppleDash shipper’s case.

I haven’t seen anything saying that Big Mac was going to have 3 kids, certainly would’ve been cool to see though. And I heard they didn’t put the fluttercord kiss into the finale episode because they thought it’d be too much to put into the ship.

Actually, what was in the script DID happen. There was a side note that they wanted it to make them seem that they were a couple, as well as have them physically close, which is what happened, and they wanted AJ to watch RD with LOVING pride, which is what all of AJs stares™ were for. So, in canon, yes it did happen.

I’m pretty sure the season 10 comics are going to take place after twilight coronation not the Future so I don’t think we’re going to see those relationships anyway unless they do a story about them starting the relationship

TBH, I don’t even care about AppleDash anymore. I just wanna see Alpha from The Walking Dead die now.

Background Pony and Infra hit the horseshoe on the… Pony. If they weren’t worried about controversy they would have made Dashie and Applejack teased from the start, and throughout the show get increasingly closer. The only thing that happened? Their rivalry got friendly. Heck there’s more tease with Rainbow and Spitfire, Rainbow and Fluttershy, and as much as I hate to admit it, even Rainbow and Quibble Pants/Soarin. What I hated about the ending of Korra most was randomly making Korra bisexual but with a preference for girls, like this exact situation. Like TLP, there were other issues but that was the one that stood out the most. Don’t just tease a ship once and never go back to it! Tease a ship consistently throughout the show so the audience isn’t just thinking “What were they thinking?” it just comes off as shortsighted as Rainbow herself would say. No series finale is going to please everyone, we’ve learned that from several cartoons. But the least they could have done was make the ship less ambiguous like having Rainbow and A.J. adopt a kid (maybe even Scootaloo?) together or something. Just a thought. Whether the animators were asked to make them a couple or not… It doesn’t matter. It’s what’s im the show. Now if you were to say “The mane six are and always were teenagers making Discord a pedophile.” or something that actually has evidence to prove (their pony selves) weren’t teens since S1 (if anything they were 19 at the youngest) then I’d be more harsh. But I’m going off on a tangent so I’ll leave you with this: the comics S10 are likely going to focus on CheesePie FlutterCord and AppleDash’s relationships if indeed the last one is canon. They’ll get more credence then you can say “I told you so!” Until then, this is only a dream of AppleDash shippers who can’t fathom why Rainbow would be straight even for a short time.

And I don’t buy they were avoiding controversy because they still show lyra and bon-bon proposing and Jim Miller is one of the people saying it’s up to interpretation and he said that they added in the proposing

There’s also the “What are they gonna do, cancel us?” line from late on in the voice actor outtakes leaks that I’d say it’s safe to assume speaks for the mood of the development staff.

I’ve seen the scripts. What happens in the show stays in the show, or else we would have to consider nearly every idea the writers ever had which would lead to many contradictions. What we saw in the show is all we should consider.

They were written as a couple in the scripts and also writers wanted to make sure the animators had AJ watch RD with loving pride and keep them both physically close as said in the animatic editor notes. That seems pretty canon to me, but I think the writers say that it’s up to interpolation not to stir the pot again like with what happened with Scoots aunts.

I hate shipping in general because of stuff like this. “ZOMG U DONT LIKE SOARIN X RAINBOW DASH?! I dunt wanna be friends with you… reeeeeee…” or something like that is a little too common and not just from Lesbian shippers. I’d personally have loved if they kept romance out of it and only hinted at LyraBon as well as Fluttercord and CheesePie. That’s my biggest problem with “The Last Problem”. Heteroshippers who shipped Rainbow with Zephyr, Soarin, Quibble, or whatever weird OC you have that has a thing for her hate the episode and say it isn’t canon, while non hetero shippers who shipped AJ and Rainbow with different mares hate the episode because it’s not Rarijack or it’s not FlutterDash or PinkieDash, or DaringDash. I am pretty sure this was intended to simply be a nod to Ashleigh Ball and nothing more. I think it’s a poorly written episode for a few other reasons as well and not because “Nooooo my waifu… Reeeee!” you get the idea.
 
I mean they kinda only confirmed the ships everyone and their grandmummy ship, but I’d have preferred if they just showed the mane six teaching a new generation without any hints of a relationship. Even CheesePie and Fluttercord which were built up through seasons (it didn’t help that Pinkie and Cheese only shared a whopping total of three episodes before tying the knot) while Fluttercord’s whole spiel was written by a 14 year old leukemia patient especially their first episode Keep calm and flutter on which reads more like a young fans dream fanfic than an actual episode (No, really, look it up) who liked Beauty and the Beast and wanted to see Discord reformed. I doubt they were originally going to reform Discord, and if they were, it wasn’t going to be Fluttershy who did it. If anything, Discord went through Wimpification and Villain Decay because of it. He didn’t seem like the John De Lancie Discord we loved from his first two appearances. And then Cosmos’ comic is released and it’s revealed she was framing Discord the whole time for everything SHE did? Yeah that’s a load of bupkis.
 
Imagine if in, say, BlazBlue they decided to redeem Terumi Yuuki (donut spoil anything from that game, I’ve only played Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift and pair him up with Makoto. It would be incredibly out of left field. The show has been known for taking fan ideas and rolling with it, especially with the “Make a Wish” foundation.

Eh, I can easily view it as a casual friendly interaction. This is a show about friendship anyways (which is a reason why I’m against mane6-mane6 shipping). They have hugged each other and gotten touchy plenty at times in the past, and hell they’ve even helped Applejack with “her chores” in previous episodes as well. But you can ship whoever you want I guess, its just that a lot of shippers I’ve seen can be really obnoxious (not you) about it and say their ship is canon based on very little evidence looking at OP.

It kind of did come out of left field though. Just because she didn’t show interest in males and cares for her friends doesn’t mean she’s gay. Again, this is a show about friendship, not relationships, so there’s little reason to explore that subject. I mean a lot of what you listed shows that she really cares for her friends and that doesn’t mean she wants to hook up with them. I’m very close with my friends and will do a lot for them, but I guarantee you I don’t want to have sex with a single one despite being bi-sexual. And I really doubt Ashleigh had an influence on the tease. She’s been shipping them for years but NOW is the time to have a nod towards her? I don’t buy it. She’s a voice actor, not a writer.

There was never a kiss scene planned for Applejack and Rainbow Dash, that was just for Fluttershy and Discord.
