Exactly. As long as you’re not impeding another player’s enjoyment of the game by, say, using aimbots in a competitive FPS, or something of the like, then play your game however you like.

Agreed. Me, when I’m told I’m not allowed to cheat, mod, use a game genie, or have things in a game for any reason:

You want a ring that boosts all stats? You want a sword that lowers your attack? You want a sword that can grow potentially infinitely stronger if you have the time and patience to grind for it? You want to use a shield as a weapon that hits for 255 damage per frame of contact and also heals you for every hit? You got can have all of that.

Honestly I wish more games gave THAT level of absolute freedom to how you played it. You want to be challenged, you want a fair fight, you want a nightmare, you want to glitch like a fiend, you want to just steamroll the game as a god? You decide! :D

Or, as speedrunners do, you can just transform mid-screen transition and fly right past the Richter fight, bypassing it entirely.

There is no threat in that game that you don’t have at least three tactics to completely cheese it. Like, on my first ever playthrough I beat Dracula by just standing there swinging the Mourneblade over and over, since every hit restores 8 HP and it’s healing you faster than he can inflict damage. The only real challenge in that game is figuring out how to beat Richter and unlock the second half of the game without like a strategy guide XD

Well, the only the electric attack he has is the one where he leans forward, holds his staff out and the lightning shoots out.  
Maybe the wave attack he does when you stand up on a ledge is also electric? I don’t remember.  
But the annoying balls he shoots out that look like they should be electric are definitely not electric.  
Plus he has 12,000 HP, whereas Dracula only has 10,000. Though his head has lower defense than the rest of him, so Wing Smashing into his face is an effective tactic.

Not if you find the Beryl Circlet that makes all of his thunder attacks heal you instead of damage you. If you’re patient (it takes a while to kill him since he has buckets of health) you can steamroll him the second you get to the Inverted Castle :P

Yeah, though some things in that game can still give you trouble (namely the Galamoth boss fight). Unless you use the Alucard Shield + Shield Rod spell, then nothing will ever challenge you.

Maybe it was intentional from the start. Like, that game was NOT meant to be hard; the second you have enough MP to do Soul Steal or realize how to combine the Shield Rod and the Iron Shield you’re basically unstoppable and both of those can be done super early in the game, and that’s not even counting all the overpowered stuff like the Mourneblade or Crissaegrim XD

To be fair, some people may have played the game for years and not known about the mechanic at all, as it requires something to do over half of Alucard’s current maximum health, and most things typically don’t do anywhere near that much damage, even when you’re running around with two Duplicators on.

Taking damage in Luck Mode to fling yourself past Death isn’t really a glitch, it’s just exploiting an intended mechanic that never really gets used otherwise.

Yeah I love SOTN. The luck-mode keep the Alucard gear glitch was my first ever case of pulling off such a glitch :D

I think my top favorite collect-a-thon style game from childhood would be either Donkey Kong 64 or Banjo Kazooie. I really loved both games =3 . Banjo Kazooie in particular was just really charming.

Oddly, I love 3D collectathons but I’m not a big fan of Metroidvanias. Or at least, I couldn’t get into the one I’ve tried (Hollow Knight) and a lot of it was because of the format of the game, so.
