Yeah, I would love to play RotN, (I’ve been looking forward to it since I first heard of it in mid-2017,) but I unfortunately don’t have anything to play it on. I’m trying to save up for a Switch, though I’m not sure when I’ll actually be able to get one.
Until then, the Castlevania games I have and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (I have the 3DS version) will have to do.

A good one to try would be Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It’s a much newer game, and made by the same producer of SOTN, and it’s very much an updated semi-sequel to it :D

Lol yeah what he said. It’s quite similar to the 2D Metroid series, but has a much higher focus on more RPG elements where you can equip different weapons and armors and items to customize your character :D

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is a 2D platformer with RPG elements (such as stats, experience, level ups, equipment, etc.). I recommend trying it if you have an XBox 360, PlayStation Vita or PS4 (or if you can emulate PS1 games).

Well, the “Metroidvania” styled ones are heavy on equipment customization (albeit variably so). Classic Castlevania had no such thing.
I haven’t played very many CV games (mostly Symphony pf the Night, Aria and Dawn of Sorrow, and Harmony of Despair, and I’ve seen the others on GBA and DS), but SotN and HD are quite a bit more equipment focused than the rest.

Totally yeah. I don’t even consider it cheating, because grinding isn’t hard or challenging. It just takes a while. You’re not actually bypassing a challenge, but simply speeding things up. It’d be different if the sword was hidden behind a super powerful boss or something, or even if the enemies that dropped it were much harder to kill and it dropped much more often :D

Nope. Castlevania games are really heavy with equipment customization. They all sort of have the same thing in common where increasing your luck stat should be your highest priority. It means more critical hits and more item drops, which’ll make you stronger than the other higher base stats :D

Yeah. Even with the 179 luck you get from playing in Luck Mode with the Eye of Vlad, the Alucart equipment set and two Lapis Lazulis, some item drops just take forever to get.
So there’s nothing wrong with just cutting the monotony of grinding for it and just cheating to get it.

Yeah. Once you’re ruining someone else’s fun with them it’s not okay. For the most part too I tend to only use cheats to either eliminate grinding or to do really bananas things like fly around or run through walls. Like, if I’m so set on getting the Crissaegrim in Castlevania SOTN that I’m actually willing to go through the ordeal of meticulously boosting my luck stat and then spending like 3 hours killing the same enemy over and over hoping one happens to random-drop it, I’m just going to put it in my inventory with a Gameshark and then spend those hours actually enjoying the thing. Or like how in the Crash Bandicoot or Mario Sunshine games I only use unlimited lives cheats: it doesn’t eliminate the challenge, it just eliminates the repetitiveness of getting game overs and having to play through the whole level to get to the checkpoint and try again some more :D
