Nightmare Moon was the first villain of the show period, so she's much more significant than G1 Tirek returning (newsflash: "G1" was, and arguably still is, nothing more than a punchline for syrupy-sweet children's properties, just like Care Bears, The Smurfs, Rainbow Brite and Barney the Dinosaur. No one ever gave a shit about the franchise until G4 came along).
