3D helped most MCU films and Disney animated films become instant successes at the box office.
 
Imagine if they released these films only in 2D and tell me how much money did they made if it’s a 2D-only release.
 
Also, look at the IMDB page of the MLP movie on the Visual Effects heading and you’ll see Legend 3D.
 
Spongebob: Sponge out of Water showed that the 3D gimmick and 2D animation can work, but Lionsgate shot that potential.

I agree. I’ll give G5 a try but I don’t have my hopes up. If it’s better than the last two seasons of FiM, I’ll call it a success and hope its quality doesn’t fade.

Yeah, it was made on a modest budget (as far as animated movies go), and the return, not only from box office sales but from toy sales, made Hasbro a tidy little profit, so I can’t imagine them being disappointed with it.
 
Plus I thought it was pretty magical (otherwise I wouldn’t have gone to seen it in theaters 3 times at the full price, and then, like, 4 more times at a local discount theater).

Literally what? Let’s not kid ourselves here - no matter what, the MLP movie was never going to be as popular as an Avengers movie - or even a CG Disney or Pixar movie, even if it was in CG itself. Even if they marketed the hell out of the movie.

I still think the movie would still have been released in 3D so it can be as successful as other CG animated films or Avengers by grossing a hundred million and would have been the No.1 movie in America.
 
Then we get a true sequel. Not like the so called “standalone” film that people always assume it’s G5 rather than what Stephen Davis claimed in the A Decade of Pony special.
 
But overall, it was a minor success, despite not getting a sequel due to the series ending.
 
I don’t even know what made Hasbro pull the plug on G4 just to move to hard-rebooted G5.

Fandom rumor is that it dissapointed, fact check reveals that while it may have under performed to box office expectations, exec’s were pleased that they pulled a decent profit and made enough toy sales for them to focus MLP on film and yearly specials.

You sure that’s true? I do like Steven Universe and Rick and Morty and I think they deserved the success and acclaim they’ve gotten, but did they really overshadow FiM?  
As for the movie, I’m glad I watched it twice in theaters. But I wish more could have been done from this fandom to ensure it wasn’t a disappointment to those Hasbro execs.

I’ve always wondered what the shows ratings would have been like if it aired on a channel that most people got instead of such a niche channel like The Hub/Discovery Family.

Do y’all ever see the comments under the current MLP YouTube videos from kids who watched the show at a really young age and are now like around 13-14, etc. And feel incredibly old? Or is that just me? And I’m only 20, for goodness sakes.

Just to clarify, I mean controversies within our fandom, not our fandom as the center of controversies. You know, we had a big split of Starlight, now we have a big split over G4 continuing through 2020.

True, but the show got overshadowed by Steven Universe, Rick and Morty and Miraculous, and the film wasn’t praised by critics (that never understood faithfulness to the source material since it’s an animated adaptation of the show and not a live action hybrid movie) despite being a minor financial success.
 
I’m surprised toy sales and the whole fandom were more higher than tv Nielsen ratings for the show to expand to six more seasons… well until Hasbro pulled the plug on G4 because of its alleged box office disappointment of the movie in the eyes of their executives.

Donkeys, buffalo, and minotaurs have been seen in Equestria throughout the series. Just because we don’t see them in groups doesn’t mean there’s discrimination. And the breezies were always meant to be a one shot presence in the show since they can only survive in that one secluded location.
