Yes they did equate petrification to death. Backgroundpony#1496 said quote:

Reformation is NOT something the Mane Six or any of the major characters aim for. Especially in the opener. Reformations tend to happen because of some purification magic. It’s actually Equestria Girls with Sunset Shimmer that go for it more and that’s usually because of being overwhelmed by Equestrian Magic and needing purification.

Not even going to bother with the rest of your list, I’m sure it’s asinine and somehow trying to justifying permanently petrifying a child because she was “born evil” I guess?

What if she’s like Luna and she’s being influenced? There’s no evidence disproving that.

Reforming isn’t necessary. Hell there’s a good message in that not everyone can be made a good guy, but they had Discord set them up, show them learning friendship, having Tirek return Chrysalis’ powers even though it meant him losing his power up and had them defending each other in the final battle. I can’t hate people like that. At worst they should’ve gotten sent back to Tartarus. Not cast in stone until further notice (fun fact: Discord notes that you remain conscious while petrified and while he’s a timeless immortal who doesn’t care, imagine a filly who gets petrified, unable to cry, unable to scream.
