It was another situation like Coco Pommel where there was absolutely zero legal action involved, Hasbro's lawmonkeys just pre-emptively decided to mandate a change Just In Case™.
 
LeVar Burton is on record somewhere as saying he would have LOVED for the episode to be titled Reading Rainbow, and would have made sure there were no legal problems with it.
