Description
Female seaponies have ovipositors so male seaponies have brood pouches. They like to pretend to be women to have one-night stands with stallions :D

@Background Pony #2192
They’re female enough that they often have one-night stands with stallions on the shore, to avoid getting pregnant :D
Uh, this one’s a guy, my guy.
The female sea ponies are the ones with the ovipositors.
@Jiminy Cragodile
That’s probably the best way to put it
Pretty much XD
Whether it’s a male land-dweller getting egged by a female, a female sapphing it up with a male seapony, a male getting intimate with a male brood pouch, or even a female land-dweller being oviposited by the less common lesbian seapony who still wants kids;
Sex with a seapony is ALWAYS gay. And yet somehow not???
They could, but it’s just not common. There’s also seapony three-ways: a male and female seapony with a stallion :D
@Background Pony #248E
Yep :D
I like to headcanon that non-hippogriff seaponies (ie, natural ones) are capable of temporarily transforming into ‘land’ ponies to be able to live on land, but only if they stay well hydrated, so it’s not for everyone to just do without preparing or being careful. They can also end up as earth ponies, pegasi, or unicorns too.
Kind of a mix of common mermaid tropes with hippogriff shape shifting stuff.
But that’s just my headcanons. :P
Even so, if they loved each other enough, they could try to make it work. Like the terrestrial one could move to a coastal area near the waters where their aquatic lover lives. Or maybe the seaponies have a thing that lets land-dwellers breathe underwater, like the merfolk in that one episode of Futurama had.
clearly
This isn’t unique to him. “Land Swinging” is SUPER common with male seaponies. Even the females get in on it sometimes, since stallions can carry their eggs XD
@OneSpooky
@Data Expunged
All is good :D
@Background Pony #7FEE
Since they can’t live outside the water (they can only leave for short periods) they don’t often try to form monogamous relations with land dwellers. They can’t turn into hippogriffs like the other seaponies :D
@GanymedeSkies
There’s two kinds. The ones that were originally hippogriffs and are more like mermaids, and these ones that are more like sea horses. They both live in different regions of the ocean and they don’t get along very well XD

@Napsack
Even the males tend to have fairly high-pitched female-sounding voices, and since their kind has more reversed gender roles the males tend to act more “female” than the females do :D
Edited
True. He does look like an awfully silken-voiced boy.
Deceptive voices exist.
Seahorses IRL are strictly monogamous and often cuddle under the moonlight, especially while the male is pregnant, and I for one would like to think this is mostly true of Seaponies too. (Kalyandra did a lovely pic showing something like this.)
But them being sapient, the scenario depicted above may not be too uncommon either.
Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing a pic of GMHAA taking the bait and possibly ending up with an aquatic hubby.
Edited because: Too many lines of just blue.
