The G4 fandom may shrink a little but it will never die. Take the G1 of the Transformers, 32 years have passed since the original cartoon ended but until now it remains to maintain one of the larger fanbases of the overall Transformers fandom. The cartoon ended but it’s one of, if not, the most important and influential version. Heck, new toys and comic based on G1continue to be made because how popular it is and fanbases of other versions of Transformers(like Beast Wars, Movieverse, Animated, Prime) overlap that just makes the entire fandom strong.
 
Star Wars for example, too. The Original Trilogy is 41 years old now yet Star Wars is still one of the most popular franchises that everyone knows, combined with the Prequels and the Sequels and everything in between. The DCAU(Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, Justice League/Unlimited, and Batman Beyond), which ended a more than a decade ago, is still popular today because of how influential it was.
 
As for girls toys supposedly not being popular for long, how about Barbie? It’s over 50-60 years old and it’s still here. All these continually being made with a lasting fanbase are testaments to the enduring popularity and influence these franchises have. The same will be for Friendship is Magic, as it’s popularity and fanbase will continue on for years to come well after the show has ended.
 
Have faith and optimism for the future, because true legends never die and G4 has become a legend to join the pantheon of franchises I just mentioned.

I have high hopes for G5. It won’t explode like G4 did, but we’ll still get some new fans and glorious artwork. A fresh start.
 
All I ask is that all of you not be so negative and critical of it this time. That’s what soured this show for a lot of people. Just stop letting other people make your opinions for you, attempt to strengthen your ability to suspend your disbelief, and enjoy G5 for what it is.
 
That first one is pretty important; STOP LETTING OTHER PEOPLE MAKE YOUR OPINIONS FOR YOU. I greatly enjoyed seasons that other people didn’t like that much because I watched them alone with zero input from the fandom (S6, S8). It helped me not take it so seriously and overall improved my experience, giving me fond memories of those seasons.

Hell, stuff of Evangelion still shows up every now and then. The end of a series doesn’t spell the end of a fandom by any stretch.

Theres always going to be dead parts of a fandom. If there wasn’t a MLP wiki, I’d be willing to bet cold hard cash that no one here could name a G2 MLP character that didn’t reappear in G4.

I dont think mlp and any girl toy franchises were designed or intended to be recognizeable or popular for a long time.

There will be G4 content after G4 ends.

it’s just that this Generation has already lost it’s novelty and has fallen over to the mundane and hasbro knows that.

Totally agree with you on your major point, this is only the beginning of a different era of the fandom, not the complete end.

That is very well said. I joined the fandom shortly after season 1 finished (A friend got me into it), and I’ve still been following it here and there. I’ve been a bit slow on watching episodes at times, and there are some parts of the fandom that have been in part responsible for why I slowed down on watching it (Got tired of seeing all the porn pop up for the most part ^^; ), but I can say that I’ve enjoyed my time with the show, and I still plan on enjoying it even after the final episode airs. There’ll still be the comics to look forwards to, so it’s not gonna be entirely over :)

And the last part, that is only if hasbro can do the future gens right, which im not countign on them. G4 would likely go down as the xenith point in the franchise , it was the highest point in the franchise and everything made after it went downhill or lives under the shadow of G4.

The fandom will be the same if not bigger when the G5 fans come in. The thing is that fandoms never die, they grow and change. Look at the fandoms of DC and Marvel and any other property that changes through the years, they’ve only grown larger. In the case of the Transformers fandom, it’s very large just as large as MLP. It’s only divided by specific versions of the Transformers: the G1 fans, Beast Wars fans, Movie fans, and Prime fans for example and those different groups still increase even long after the original series ended and will overlap when they’re a fan of more than one version. The same is for the MLP fandom, with G1, G2, G3 and 3.5, G4(FiM), and the incoming G5. Fandoms don’t die, they grow and change. There will always be G4 fans long after it’s ended, because G4 has become one of the most beautiful important versions of MLP and will continue to influence the next versions.

But lets be real. I’ve seen the stuff from 2012-2014, the community was FLOODING content back then compared to now. The party isn’t going to stop the day season 9 ends, but the community has obviously been shrinking for years.

I got into the fandom in 2017 so I knew what I was getting into when it came to the fandom. Not my first time riding a fandom into oblivion.
 
That said, I came into the fandom knowing that I wouldn’t be getting too involved with the community, I’d mostly plumb the archives then walk away once the tap slow down enough to lose my interest.
