This episode didn’t sunk nor confirm any ship;
The only thing that was confirmed is Rarity realizing how much Spike’s presence was important to her, and it’s an AMAZING way to end the last episode focused on Spike and Rarity

I don’t think its an official couple, just friendship. Sugar belle I didn’t mind as much but only because I never really paid much attention to the big mac ships. You’re right about the rushed feeling, though. Its kind of jarring to see a friendship break out between two characters that have only been onscreen together once with zero interaction, that friendship to become big enough to take Spike’s eyes off of Rarity for more than 30 seconds and for it to drive Rarity up the wall all packed into a 22 min episode.
Well there are some ship tease between Spike and Gabby in the episode (like this scene here) but that’s about it. People who don’t like Sparity try too hard to make Sparity sink, while the show’s canon do the opposite.
While I do the idea of Spike and Gabby bring a couple but they really are not in the show’s canon.

First Big Mac and Sugar Belle, now this. Is there a reason the new official couples have to come out of the blue? Are they using the WTF factor to dilute the backlash? Going for crazy enough to work? Avoid controversy by leaving other shippers equally (dis)satisfied?
Remember, Flash Sentry and Timber Spruce were their attempts to give love intreats appropriate buildup, it didn’t make them less controversial.
<spoiler> Spike making a new friend (NOT a new love interest),
Spike NOT moving on from his crush on Rarity,
Rarity super disappointed that Spike rejected her invitation,
Rarity desperately trying to apologize with him despite not knowing what for,
Rarity’s being SUPER jealous AND sad about Spike hanging out with soneone else,
Rarity remembering all the good times together with Spike,
Rarity realizing how much she misses Spike and how much his presence throught the years has meant to her,
Rarity pushing herself way too hard to spend time with Spike,
Rarity admitting she doesn’t like the idea of sharing Spike but learns the lesson,
Rarity restoring friensdhip between Spike and Gabby,
and episode NOT ending with Spike and Gabby flying away from Rarity, but instead with Spike returning to Rarity, having them hugging and holding hoof/hand, ans Spike saying that despite he had a great day with Gabby, he always wants his “Rarity time”.
… Exactly WHAT PART of this is supposed to be considerered as Sparity’s death?

I would have rathered that too, to be honest. But the show has been doing this sort of thing with the main character’s relatives a lot.
If they’d have just shown them meeting, even in the background, a season or two ago, it wouldn’t have appeared so randomly. I think the ep with scootaloo’s parents is the first ep where these two have even been onscreen together. This surprise, out of nowhere friendship, built up to the point that Spike would rather hang with her than Rarity, just feels so rushed. I’ll have to watch the ep to be sure but the friendship between Spike and Gabby itself, however cute it may be, just sounds like it’ll be one of the weaker points of the episode.
I love this new ship, but I fail to see how this sinks Sparity, since it’s basically confirming that Rarity is jealous for the attention of Spike. If anything it plants the seeds for a possible threesome.
