Good point on the difficulty of animating him. Little things like that CAN be really taxing to do lol.

Whether you do or not, I personally think the animators of this industry would have a hard time animationg Spike and his newly acquired wings and it would seem they’d have a hard time animating him throughout the entire special.  
But I somewhat agree with you about him not being involved, knowing his role in the show anyways I don’t think he would serve much of a purpose in the special, especially when the show itself is technically aimed at young girls.

I’m not sure I agree with you on his appearance…it is fine for me…  
I think he didnt appear as much simply because he is unnecessary to the story.  
The story was about the town and the mane 6.

I’m going out on a limp here and saying the reason spike is so stiff here might be because of wings.

Except he isn’t and honestly he looks rather off in this style, which could explain why he wasn’t as involved in this special as much as he was in the movie because he doesn’t look like himself at all.

Not too bad, though. Plus, I feel like he has more facial expression, and given his overall personality, it gives him alot more room as a character.  
Excited to see more of him in this style.

His Toon Boom model seemed a bit off, a bit less mature, but in a wrong way as compared to the ponies.
