I absolutely hated this episode. One of the worst Twilight Sparkle episodes ever, snd that’s saying something given this pony’s track record of bad episodes.

Yeah, that’s what I thought too, but given this show’s bad track record when it comes to lack of focus on what the season is supposed to be about (season four’s focus on Twilight becoming a Princess, season five’s focus on family, season six’s focus on Starlight Glimmer’s redemeption, season seven’s focus on the Pillars of Equestria, and season eight’s focus on the School of Friendship), this is less than surprising, and I’ve gotten used to it by now. I especially hated this when in “The Summer Sun Setback” Twilight has suddenly mirscilously gotten past her freak out tendencies. We’re not shown this. We’re told and expected to just go along with it. Oh, that moment pissed me off to no end!

For me, it’s the fact that it goes overboard imo.  
Twilight freaking out and “twilighting” is standard, honestly, but never reached the point of being very arrogant and making it hard for other ponies.
 
It feels overboard over the fact that she tries to rat out on other ponies over mundane rules (even so much to give that pretentious tone over Cranky sleeping, the kind people like those would give just to be a d*** (“disqualification! U3U”)),  
Making sure Pinkie Pie doesn’t answer a single question, even on a topic the pony WOULD know like cupcakes,  
and even going so far as to purposely get Pinkie disqualified.
 
Like I said, her going worried and crazy is fine since it’s a common thing in the show, even for her friends to poke fun at it, but this felt beyond that.  
It took a simple trivia game, that as far as we’re aware is a new thing in Ponyville (Twilight has a winning streak of 2. Not a big number. Just 2.), to break Twilight. It definitely feels jarring once you remember the season is supposed to focus, or at least we thought would, on Twilight taking the mantle as the new princess of Equestria.

Ugh! I hated that episode, and still do to this day! Easily one of the worst episodes of season two, if not the whole series! The only good thing about that episode was that it showcased every single misstep that season two was guilty of.

Yeah, some act like they hate certain characters for being “Sues,” while also wanting their favorite characters to be perfect, and flawless in every way. I don’t get it.

That’s probably happened to every character, perhaps they might’ve gone a li’l overboard in this ep’, but I’ve seen some fans get upset if a character like Twilight or Spike shows any flaw, or stubs their toe, or whatever. Some even use that to pull the annoying, “The writers hate my favorite character!” nonsense. So ironically, many are overreacting, much like how purple horse has in the past.
 
I remember some had similar complaints about “Lesson Zero,” or complained it’s faces look too silly to, so this is really nothing new. Still, most seem to look back on that episode more fondly nowadays.

Well, in return I don’t get why people pretend that there isn’t a balance to character traits that can be tilted significantly in the opposite direction, where someone who is portrayed as usually together with rare breakdowns could be flipped to usually being a mess with rare moments of having it together, and claim that it’s not different at all.

I’m almost afraid to even comment on these kinda pics anymore in fear of either being accused of “being against negative criticism,” or for being “too negative for being critical.”
 
That said, I don’t get why some act like Twilight is OOC, and claim she has never acted like this before. I guess ‘cause we haven’t seen as many classic Twilight freak-outs in the Season 5-8 era, so fans disregard episodes like “Swarm of the Century,” “Green is not your color,” “Lesson Zero,” “It’s About Time,” ect.  
Overreacting, or being a worry-wart, even when it’s portrayed less exaggerated/comically, (like say in “Boast Busters,” or “Ticket Master”) has always been a character trait of her’s.
 
It’s like pretending Applejack has never been stubborn, Spike has never been clumsy, Dashie isn’t a tad egotistical, or that Fluttershy has occasional outbursts.
