@Pause
That has nothing to do with why this show is bad. It’s bad due to bad writing and bad characterization, something that has been plaguing this series since season two.
@Smitty1991
You have no way of knowing that. As far as I know, they do it because it’s a cartoon and cartoons are supposed to be expressive. Besides, writers have no control over storyboarding, and thus have no control over characters facial expressions. And they didn’t canonize that, They referenced it.
@northern haste
And they added it into the sbow in “Pinkie Apple Pie”, season 4, episode 9. That was one of stupidest, worst moments on this show, and that’s saying a lot considering the amount of stupid stuff on this show.
@Smitty1991
That should be proof enough that the producers don’t really care for the fans and only give them this pandering fluff for the sake of high ratings.
@northern haste
The writers/animators do these faces because they know it leads to memes. Why do you think they canonized “Twilightlicious” back in season four?
@Ihhh
Twilight hasn’t acted smart, cute, dorky, or relatable since season two. Ask anyone who’s stuck with the series since season one ans they’ll like tell yku the same. When Twilight becane an alicorn, her entire character changed. Nowadays she and the others are used for memes. This episode was full of it.
And I feel like even the slice of life episodes (most of them anyway) of this season are connected to the mane 6 eventually becoming the new rulers, even if just tangentially.
@SnakeyThingy
That’s because the writers themselves don’t care and if the writers don’t care, why should the audience? Given how utterly god-awful these past couple of seasons have been, I knew that they would approach this season with an attitude of “let’s not bother putting in any actual effort or care this season. It’s the final season, so who cares? Let’s get through this season as fast as possible so that we can finally be done with this stupid show and move on with our lives. Nobody above the age of five watches this stupid show anymore anyway.”
@superfun
The problem for me is that this is the FINAL season, where we’re supposed to have more focus on Twilight becoming a ruler once Celestia and Luna retire as well as Tirek, Chrysalis, Cozy Glow, and the goat man thing (He is forgettable for me that I nearly forgot his name).
If the season wants to have filler or slice of life episodes, that’s fine, but it just makes this season like any other season than what is supposed to be the grand finale. We don’t get a lot of episodes building up on Twilight’s new role or build up to goat man’s power, only just a tiny handful like about 2 or 3, that it just leaves very little reason to care.
@rannius
That’s nothing new. They’ve always done that, even going as far back as seasons one and two, which were nothing BUT filler!
@SnakeyThingy
That’s one of the reasons why I hated “2, 4, 6 Greaaat” so much, because Twilight was so stupid in that episode. She stupidly chose Rainbow to coach the buckball team knowing full well that she wasn’t qualified for the job and had absolutely zero interest or experience in doing it, didn’t care that Dash had no absolutely zero experience or interest in doing it, shot down her protests and pretty much forced her into doing it, then at the end acted as if she was in the right to do so. The fact that she’s becoming so much like Celestia is a bad thing. Between that, this episode, and last season’s “Marks for Effort”, it’s like these writers are hellbent on completely destroying Twilight’s character before the show is over and done with.
@Smitty1991
Now that you bring it up, this episode also felt like a strong contrast to the last few seconds of the previous episode, where it showed how sneaky and witty Twilight can be when Rainbow Dash learned her lesson. Twilight worked her way around to teach a pony something in the same vein as Celestia would. In fact, that’s what she has been doing this season, being the guidance ponies needed when their problems felt like they reached impossible levels, all it took was a talk with Twilight to get them to the right path. That’s great! Shows how dependable Twilight can be as the new ruler.
