To be fair, Trixie was likely reintroduced cause they couldn’t think of enough things to do with Starlight.  
Look how quickly they reintroduced her after Starlight’s reformation.
 
S6E1-E2: Starlight’s first time as a reformed pony  
S6E6 (Literally the second time she’s even the main focus after being reformed) Trixie Appears  
And since then, at least 50% of Starlight’s Episodes, maybe more, involve Trixie, rather than a solo act for her.
 
As for Trixie herself, I’ve always loved Trixie because she was misunderstood from the beginning.  
Cocky? Yes, that makes it understandable why some hate her.  
But for me, it’s just that was her job, and she’s done it for so long, it’s rubbed off on her actual personality, along with some mixed feelings for the Mane 6 for basically temporarily ruining her.
 
Trixie has, and always will be my favorite FIM character.
