“We hold these truths to be self-evident. That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Those words carried so much meaning that it simply cannot be measured. With one vote by 13 colonies a new union was founded, one rooted in the idea that all are equal before the law because we, men and women alike, are all equal in the eyes of our creator. In such a place you are free to live the life that you are happy with. This lifestyle, however, does not come without responsibility. Far from it. If we wish to remain free in the future we must be virtuous and respectful towards our fellow citizens, and always teach the next generation to do the same. When we forge friendships, strive for dignity, provide for ourselves, ask what we can do for others, and remember not to do to each other that which is hateful to ourselves we make this country worth living in and worth fighting for. It has been so for 243 years now. Let’s celebrate with guns and bells, food and drink, fireworks and sports, and song and dance as we renew each year our commitment to proclaim liberty throughout this land to all the inhabitants thereof.
