They weren't abusive. Its clear at the start of the ep that the parents have made long term arranged with the aunts, other townsponies like the Cakes, and now RD to watch over Scoots during their extended trips. Its not like she needs someone watching over her 24/7 (looking at you AJ). And the primary reason the parents want Scoots to go with them is that they are worried about her safety now with the reappearance of Sombra and the destruction of the tree (blissfully unaware of the true villains at play)
