Shipping drama again.
 
Didn’t they say they weren’t gonna do any M6 ships? They should have just stuck with that. The moment they started pairing them off, even if only in EQG universe and even only officially with some one or two off characters we never see again, opened pandora’s box to shipping wars breaking out in the canon.
 
I have my own ship preference (Sparity) I wouldn’t mind seeing canon but I know I wouldn’t have any problem with everyone remaining platonic to prevent fights like this.
 
More than anything, though, its just a children’s cartoon. There’s nothing wrong with ships nor is there anything with your ships differing from that of others, but if you’re getting into actual fights about fictional characters’s romantic lives, you’re a little off the deep end on this one.
 
Still, I hold these writers and hasbro in general most responsible. If they’re gonna do something, do it already and put an end to all this ‘hint hint’ nonsense. Grow a pair or get back to focusing on the storyline.

Also, I would advise against lumping all shippers in with trouble-starters. Most people don’t cause bullshit, we just get really annoyed at the ones who do, and they’re loud, so it seems like a bigger conflict than it actually is. People aren’t rabid internet-animals just because they happen to like Rarijack.
 
If anything I’m more annoyed by anti-shippers, because by definition, you’re getting angry at people who are enjoying a thing, and the very concept of that seems extremely bitter to me. Getting mad at the people who take it too far and become harassers, is a different matter. You shouldn’t attack the very idea of shipping, that’s stupid.

Kind of two conflicting points. Obviously some people want it because shippers exist.
 
Regardless of what is canon and what’s not I will say I tend to NOT like forced romances in fiction, but the idea itself has potential to tell a nice story of some kind. It purely depends on the skill of the writer and the compatibility of the characters - do they resonate with each other? Do their negatives and positives bounce off of each other in a believable and entertaining way? Is there any conflict/tension that can arise to create a new subplot? Can this relationship resolve a different conflict? Can these characters /build/ on each other and develop in an interesting way? Can this existing relationship between two characters have any effect on a future, greater plot, such as a conflict of interest or an opportunity for one of the two to confide or console each other?
 
All of these things are basic principles of what romance can do in fiction even if it is utilized for side characters who are NOT the primary protagonists. To imply that all of these things are universally IMPOSSIBLE is extremely ignorant. Positive, narratively useful things can potentially arise from a relationship, it just depends on whether or not the writers are capable of handling a complex subject in a way that’s fulfilling and positive for the show.
 
Sometimes even fan service can grow to be more than that. But because in this instance, Hasbro isn’t okay with it being completely canon, they’re not going to explore the relationship in a real and solid way that would allow it to actually effect anything, so it’s trapped in the shallow pool where it means nothing. It’s still just an in-joke, as Katrina directly states.

Exactly what I was thinking. I would love it to be canon, I really do, but this still isn’t enough for me to call it canon just yet. They would have to go further and all the way and I have my doubts that they would go that far.

People on the staff can have their ships, but that doesn’t inherently make them canon. IIRC a person who worked on Overwatch said that they shipped McCree and Genji.
 
And these same writers could easily have other ships involving Applejack or Rarity; they’re not one big hive-mind on one pairing.

Pretty much. I think’s really unfortunate but desptie the ship teases, currently the two ships aren’t canon. But it’s nice to know that they like the idea of Rarity and Applejack having this sort of relationship.

I don’t know how fans could take it ambigiously since I recall Applejack refer to her parents in the past tense before in the show multiple times (as if they were dead).

The thread’s a dumpster fire and I hate it. Outside of the dumb typical shipping drama, the thread was also constantly derailed. The thread also seemed to have also existed as a circlejerk against some artists in the fanbase too (there was some wild conspiracy theories and slander about some of them there too and one person couldn’t even bother to spell one of the artist’s names correctly).
