I would just like to see a student of Celestia’s that was normal and had neither psychotic melt downs or become super villains.
That’s not the same as making a person your personal agent. Celestia did that in spite of Twilight’s flaws, which she knew existed, even if not the extent of them.
To be fair, would you let an immensely powerful unicorn run free with no special training.

That kinda proves my point. Celestia chose her solely on the strength of her magic, not anything else.
To be fair, she picked Twilight when she was a filly. A lot of that stuff probably hadn’t manifested yet.
Twilight’s been dangerously unstable herself. Celestia seems to select for power and ability over personality.
