And they might not have romantic feelings for each other. It’s certainly open to interpretation, and people are welcome to interpret character interactions however they want. Frankly most of us don’t care if you want to pretend two individuals from the show are a couple. Where the problem comes in is in regards to the word “canon”. A “canon” relationship can only exist if the show itself acknowledges it as such. Mr. and Mrs. Cake? Established by the show, canon couple. Shining Armor and Princess Cadance? Established by the show, canon couple. Maud and Mudbriar? Established by the show, canon couple. Applejack and Rarity? Not established by the show as anything other than friends, not a couple.
 
And that doesn’t mean you can’t interpret them as a couple or that the show would never go ahead and make them one. But until the day comes when they are actually shown to be more than friends in an official capacity, it’s not a canon relationship, and anyone who wants to see them as just friends and nothing more is equally valid in interpreting them that way.
