This movie is gonna utterly shit itself at the theatres, and be a box office bomb/failure, and even the furries are denouncing Sonic as a whole because of this movie. In fact, I think I’m pretty confident to say that this movie will be the final, definitive demise of not only Sonic, but of Sega as a whole, from what I’ve been seeing thus far of reactions to the look of this nightmare fuel of a Sonic design. Also… That generic, stolen plot that’s been used since that live action+CGI Alvin and the Chipmunks movie from ages ago? No thanks, Detective Pikachu might be the one to break the video game movie curse, but another curse will take effect: The final, definitive death of Sonic+Sega for good. And you know what? Good riddance once it actually happens. Screencap this and mark my words.
I’m curious how people feel about Raf Grassetti’s fan-design of Sonic. (art director of “God of War”) It coincidently looks a bit similar, but a li’l better. Still a bit off though.
I hate to sound pessimistic, but having said that, (and unable to edit/add to my previous comment) let me stress, I’m not insulting all Sonic fans. Ian Flynn writer for the Archie & IDW comics has done a good job with Sonic, and was a fan in his youth. and he’s arguably considered the best Sonic writer by most fans of the comics. (But even then some fans hate him. Nobody’s infallible.)
For all we know, some of the people working on the movie might’ve been Sonic fans in their youth. So even if that is the case, nobody’s perfect, and I just think making the “perfect” Sonic movie that would appeal to retro Sonic fans, modern Sonic fans, SatA.M. fans, IDW fans, non-Sonic fans, ect. is a tall order to fill. (Regardless how it looks, how funny it is, how amusing it is, ect.)
Good graphics don’t make a good story though. My issues with the Sonic movie are not with how it looks, (there’s lots of movies with good effects, and animation, but with crap stories) but more-so with it’s cliché “Sonic somehow winds up on earth & befriends a random human” plot, and such. (Which has been done sense “Masters of the Universe,” and is honestly kinda fanfic-like)
Still, I feel it at least looks worth a few lulz in a “So bad it’s good” way like the Street Fighter, and Super Mario movies which I enjoyed despite their faults, and goofiness.
And yeah, “Gangsta’s Paradise” is an odd ‘90s song to use,
I’m not blindly defending everything about the movie, I’ve even voiced both my gripes, and things I like about it in the Derpibooru forums. You really need to chill, and stop spazzing out, just because I have different opinions then you. Your opinions aren’t absolute either.
Also, your argument that the “fans” would make a better movie is a bit biased. As I said, ever seen Richard Kuta’s original Sonic movie pitch, as well as ones from other fans? Their ideas make this movie sound like “Citizen Cane” in comparison.
Even if they got the “right” fans to make it, every fan has their opinion on what Sonic should be, so there’s no way they’d all agree to make a decent movie together, or compromise their prefered version of Sonic, and frankly it probably would be no less goofy, cheesy, or corny as what we’re already getting.

And hows this for a bit of irony? Sonic 06’s cutscenes look better than this piece of shit movie. The only reason that game was bad was because of all the programming bugs and plot holes in the story. But the graphics(in cutscenes) and the music were all on point. None of which the trailer for this sonic movie had.
Example to me how in the FUCK gangsta’s paradise makes any sense to be put in a sonic trailer. You cannot defend that shit at all.

and its simple minded shit like that why nothing is ever made good anymore. I can show you countless examples of how a animated sonic movie would work better. Take the cutscenes in sonic unleashed for example; most notably the opening. That entire scene is more movie quality than this piece of shit movie and if you sit here and try and deny that your either lying or in denial.
Sonic is and has always been animated so if it ain’t broke don’t fucking fix it. Stop trying to find excuses for the movie cause iT bEiNg DiFfErRENT isnt a good excuse. Voltron legendary defender is different from the original voltron but guess what? THE CHARACTERS STILL LOOK AND OR ACT LIKE THEIR ORIGINAL COUNTERPARTS AND VOLTRON LOOKS LIKE FUCKING VOLTRON.
This version of Sonic? Looks NOTHING like Sonic and you cannot argue that. Thing thing looks like a midget in a fur suit and red sneakers that can run fast cause he did a bunch of drugs. If this movie was handled by FANS and not some dipshit Hollywood suits and supported by FANS AND LOGICAL people and not sheep who just accept Hollywood shit given to them? Then a Sonic the hedgehog movie could be like the Ironman to Video game movies as genre cause remember something? Super hero movies didn’t become big deal till the first Ironman movie and Sonic could have been that if done well but it isn’t yet you wanna sit here and defend this half ass Hollywood piece of trash because “It’s different, theres no proof an animated sonic would work better anyway”

I don’t see how making it all CGI animated with uncanny-valley humans & such would look any better frankly. Then it’d just look like Sonic2006.
Besides, Sonic’s done 2D & 3D animation already, so honestly I’m fine with live-action for something new.
Live-action, animated doesn’t matter, it’s Sonic, it’s not going to be an Oscar-winning movie no matter what they do.

To be honest, I wasn’t too bothered by the old look. In fact, I’d kinda rather have a somewhat original look rather then just copy the game design exactly. (Or something in between.) The uni-eye just looks weird in live-action to me.
I read on-line that due to outbursts from the Sonic fans over the design of Sonic’s eyes and his teeth in the movie the movie directors will change Sonic’s design for the Sonic movie before it hits movie theaters.
This is what the new Sonic will probably look like in the movie now.
The redesign isn’t official but the movie directors said that the new redesign will most likely look more like the screenshot above so the Sonic fans are happy about the Sonic movie coming out now.

Of course, due to the fact that they will have to redesign Sonic again for the whole movie the movie date has been pushed back a little bit but hopefully it’ll be well worth the wait.
