That’s why I stopped buying game like that. I play story focused games only know. Even for mmos if you don’t have minimum 18 hours of story the game is not worth $10 much less full price game. Hell free to play app games have been giving me better story and play then mane stream games.

It’s all part of the new “Gaming as a Service” model, the days of just paying a one time full price of $50-$60 for a game and feeling that you own that copy of that game forever and you can play it however you want, online or offline.
Remember Diablo 3? A game that forced me to be online, even when I just wanted to play single player and be offline, that kinda stuff got me out of the Diablo fandom. I still enjoy the first two games btw.
The big game companies don’t feel like they can turn enough profits just by selling games off of the store shelves anymore, they feel that pressure to keep pumping people who enjoy their products for monthly transactions.

I’m not super a fan of how you can just buy weapon repair kits in the “cosmetic only” microtransaction store, whereas you used a work bench in the past. We’ve officially entered Pay To Win territory. I liked Fallout New Vegas, I liked Fallout 4… not a big fan of the way Bethesda is handling FO76.

I rented Fallout 76. Except for a half hour period when the game kept kicking me out, I actually enjoyed it.

I loved the return of weapon/armor conditions and the need to repair them as well as the survival eat/drink aspects of the game.

Though I do recognize that the lack of living NPCs as quest givers made the world feel more empty and dead than previous Fallout games. I also recognize the fetch quest and the story were hollow because of the lack of impact on the world given that the quest givers were either A.I.s or recordings of people who were already dead.

Still the 2 or 3 day I played were a lot of fun for me and if/when the game drops to $20 I may pick up a copy of my own.
