Not if the mind is upgraded to be able to process such knowledge

I can image a picture showing Cthulhu pulling all of them into a hug, which each of them showing clear signs having lost any semblance of sanity, such as frothing at the mouth, bloodshot eyes, having had cut various symbols into themselves, and gibbering incoherently. And at the bottom it says “my little Cthulhu, friendship is madness”

…Why does it sound like a religion encouraging people to stay ignorant so as not to question the authority of the church?

Also, Lovecraft himself was pretty openly an atheist, so he certainly wasn't advocating blind obedience to the church.

Yes, it's the opening paragraph of Call of Cthulhu. It's intended as the primary statement of Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror Stories: it's better to remain ignorant of the universe at large, and of our insignificance amidst the greater powers that barely notice or care if we exist, because knowledge of said insignificance will inevitably lead to insanity and despair.

Not one of Lovecraft's better stories, IMHO. I personally preferred The Color Out of Space, The Dunwich Horror, and Curse of Yig.

Is that really an excerpt? Why does it sound like a religion encouraging people to stay ignorant so as not to question the authority of the church?
