Spike, in all likelihood, was an orphan egg, left unhatched in a clutch that was abandoned. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been there as an egg at all.

The fact that she hatched him at a young age doesn’t stop her from being mom. Sure, Velvet might help to take care of Spike, and I suspect Celestia had more than a hoof as well, but that makes them his Grammas, not his mom.

Twilight’s definitley a better big sister than a mom. I dunno about Velvet. Was Spike raised in the Sparkle household or celestia’s castle? I guess it depends where he grew up.

Wouldn’t Twilight Velvet be more like Spike’s mom and Twiggles be closer to his big sis?

She is the closest thing to a maternal figure he has but they’re so close to the same age it feels a bit weird for him to consider Twilight his mom. Big sister? That feel a lot closer to the mark.
