I think that Twilight Sparkle represented her from the more powerful side than she thought. And Grogar maybe would want to get her magic or control her for taking over of Equestria and open postal to darkness. Also he simply uses his legion of antagonists for future getting their magic. This is nature of antagonist. He can be so dangerous and more powerful than we think about him

Maybe I’m missing something, but weren’t the Elements destroyed? How did he get his hooves on Twilight’s element?
