Seriously, my reaction to these news was just about the same as when I learned the so long awaited Celestia and Luna episode was gonna feature Starlight. Couldn’t get a bigger whiplash even if I asked for it.

Well, probably yes - Twilight just waay to much goimg on with her, and as a result the Twilight x Timber Romance fells really outt of place, artificially lued together to the movie’s storyline of Sci-Twi overcoming her (actually cripling at times) trauma.
 
Although as I mentioned bellow, the romance isn’t exactly well developed - a lot of Timber and Twilight’s scenes felt to me a bit forced, because how quickly Twilight’s and Timber’s relationship escalated.

Honestly the romance in Legend of Everfree probably would’ve worked better even if the only difference was the subplot going to a character other than Twilight even.

Well I agree the pairing should be given a chance, but I think there is a reason why people dislike Timber x Sci-Twi pairing that much, aside from shipping, or petty reasons.
 
The fact is, that (at least I think so) sadly the romance between Twilight and Timber isn’t exactly well written, or paced (at least as some claim), as well as it (arguably) damages the characterization of characters through the Legend of Everfree movie.
 
I mean, people liking it, say it is a deeper, less cliche romance…but really it isn’t so much really, I mean it does use, and pretty much start with the incredibly cliche, and rather lazy in terms of writing love at first sight narrative device.
 
And it’s quite odd for Twilight to fall in love/get a crush so fast in such situation - I mean right before this, and after this, she was haunted by her fears of Midnight Sparkle, and her magic getting out of control. This continues through the rest of the movie - Twilight acting traumatized, then meeting Timber and acting all in love, then again being traumatized - really making her character arc erratic and inconsistent.
 
Not to mention, arguably because of the romance also taking up quite a bit of movie’s screen-time, as a result the Humane 5 get very little characterization, as well Gloriosa get’s barely any - despite being the main villain, or we don’t see any real resolution with the story with Filthy Rich.
 
Sci-Twi’s and Timber’s interactions also aren’t exactly written - while Timber get’s to tell Twilight her backstory, Twilight doesn’t ever giver her own, or tells him any of her problems, or have them bond over more than just being interested in scientific stuff - in fact when Timber once for a moment sees Twlight is troubled by something, a moment later both the movie and Timber forget about this development entirely. Them even bonding over similar interests comes of as a kinda half hearted effort, seeing it two very small moments they talk over sciency stuff, and one the movie get’s wrong - Timber says Sapphire - Sapphirus/Sappirus in Latin means blue, but it’s not true - Sapphirus/Sappirus means just Sapphire. A minor mistake, but it kinda I think adds to the argument the romance’s development comes of as a half-hearted effort.
 
This also resulted in the fact Timber has no impact on Twilight’s character arc - Sci-Twi get’s over her trouble entirely thanks to her friends. Their romance could be entirely removed, and it wouldn’t affect’s Twilight’s main storyline at all. I mean, Flash even had some impact on pony Twilight’s storyline in the first two movies, if minor (ie helping Twilight in the first a bit, and him being under the Dazzlings spell and antagonistic towards Twilight, made even more stressed, and have even less hold over the Humane 5, or the situation…)
 
I hope you’re right about the fact the pairing, as well Timber’s and Twilght’s relation in general will be developed (and that the writers learned on their mistakes - well at least what I think were mistakes) - and I do agree the share level of antagonism towards this pairing, it’s fans, and Timber, is unecersary, especially at times (although I’m not sure it is such case here allready), but I felt I should note I think there are legimate reasons why people disliked and dislike this pairing, and aren’t enthusiastic it is continued…
