Yeah, the current aim for G5’s story seems to be about adventure and continuity. Gravity Falls was used as an example of the kind of show they want.

I’m honestly not sure how Season 9 will turn out though, I was still holding that the writers could do better with certain characters that could’ve potentially develop better, characters such as Princess Luna and Spike but I’m not sure if they’ll ever receive the justice they’ve finally oh so deserved. I’m also worried about the series as a whole, it’s really about a slice of life show that teaches morals and the meaning of friendship but it’s also a show that promotes and sells girl’s toys, other cash cows like DBZ and Pokemon all have this in common and is still running to this day. So even if G4 is ending the franchise as a whole will continue to run. All I know that if they’re finally going to end G4, I at least want them to do it with effort, heart and care so that the show can leave on a good and positive note.
 
And who knows there are still fans who create their own ideas or series that probably does it better than the writers that work on the show. Only time will tell when Hasbro finally pulls the plug on FiM.

that is basically the motivation when they literally let lauren faust start generation 4 to begin with. it is not abnormal a mindset. but generally hasbro kept their hands out of the project.
 
those same leaks said that the guys planning the next gen want more of a story focused adventure type deal. so while they want to reboot for money they have guys working out how to set the series apart from gen 4.

I still think Tiffany Haddish would fit Rainbow Dash or Pinkie Pie better. I mean… I like Tiffany, but what the production staff wants to do with Applejack doesn’t match her!

The obvious problem is that G5 isn’t borne out of what G4 was: Namely, Lauren Faust and her desire to make a good cartoon first, merchandising vehicle second.
 
From the leaked documents a year and a half ago, we already know G5 is Hasbro basically rebooting the franchise because they want more money. They could give two flips about whether or not it’s any good outside of that. Hasbro’s dictating the direction and design of the show. And they’re flushing everything down the toilet except the names of the Mane 6. AJ’s already a victim of design by committee: The “country girl character” wasn’t as popular as the rest, so out she goes! And I mean this literally. In the documents they stated the redesign was to have nothing to do with country or countryfolk whatsoever. It is verboten. And that was just one of many things that we’re aware of.
 
So that’s why the negative outlook on G5 already. We’re not looking at a new generation headed up by someone who had a vested personal interest in making a good series. We’re looking at a new generation headed up by Hasbro and their marketing heads.

This. People have to understand that Generation 5 could end up being so much better than anything in FiM, and that they should just give it a shot. Maybe it actually will be, maybe it won’t, but don’t just start spreading dissent and negativity by already hating it before we’ve even seen a single official mention.

Star Trek is one of the two biggest scifi franchises in the world (the other being Star Wars.) And a good deal of the technology you use on a daily basis was created by people who were inspired by the show. That’s hardly “niche.”

Far too early.

I got into this community primarily because of the fan content and the people in it. The show alone wouldn’t have been enough to grab me, it was the fandom, the tf2 servers, the animations, the OC’s, the fangames, the fanfics, /mlp/, CYOA threads, the artists, etc.
 
I met my best friend, learned how to draw, and changed as a person because of this community. It’s had a big impact on me, as dumb as that sounds.
 
I currently don’t see any reason for me to stop drawing pony art, reading fanfics, rewatching an episode I really liked once in awhile, and shitposting ponies with my friends who are into that, even if the show stops. Ponies are cute, appealing and haven’t gotten old for me in years of enjoying content related to them.
 
Considering how worried people are about the fandom dying, I think that’s actually a good sign the fandom actually isn’t going to die, at least anytime soon. Things like these die from a lack of interest, not because of some arbitrary fandom lifespan. My enjoyment of ponies doesn’t rely solely on new episodes of MLP being produced. Hasbro didn’t create Delta Vee’s Junkyard, Fallout Equestria, the plethora of Ask Blogs, all the pony mods you can find for just about any video game with modding capability, and all the art. Yes, the early 2010’s are over and they aren’t coming back, but really, I’m not worried. Star Trek is still a niche, but respected, cultural phenomenon to this day, and they didn’t even have easily accessible internet when it started.
