I’m not complaining. I’d just like to know more about the short we got. Is it part of season 8 or 9? Will there be more of them? How many? There are no answers.

They are not taking long at all. It isn’t usually until February or March when the premiere date for the next season is announced.

Best Gift Ever and this Rarity short are the only official FiM animations  
that have been released since the end of season 8, right?

What news do you want? A release date could be nice. They worked in the final episodes at the end of 2018, but haven’t specified when they were done with all, if they even are done. But the release could be excited to be March–April like for most seasons of MLPFIM.
 
But any other information should be kept secret until you watch the episode. Why ruin it…?
