Pinkie doesn’t, but her sisters do a little with each other. But yea, coat chromatics are not inherited, it seems.

I would like to point out that Pinky Pie looks absolutely nothing like her parents, and shares no color with her sisters.

I think these tow fit the family color scheme surprisingly well. ROY G. BIV style.
 
Red (Big MacIntosh), Orange (Applejack), Yellow (Applebloom), Green (Granny Smith) Blue (Unnamed Father), Violet (Unnamed Mother). All thats missing is Indigo which would be… Granny’s spouse?

Also, I’d like to point out that they do not resemble Applejack, Big Macintosh, or Apple Bloom at all in terms of their coloring.

I doubt the ponies in the painting were her parents. It was a reference to American Gothic, so chances are that it was just supposed to be an old painting.

@upBG pony: nope, JJ said that Lauren Faust said that AJ’s parents are dead.

The picture on the wall IS a play on ‘American Gothic’, however it could also just happen to be a picture of AJ’s parents, either intentionally mimicking it, or simply unconsciously reflecting the scene.

Applejack is more delusional than I thought…

They didn’t care about the headcanons. All they cared was A) HER PARENTS ARE DEAAAD and B) No little kids would figure out A.

Although for my own canons sake, I was rather hoping they would be more direct about what happened to AJ’s parents, but also that they would explain where the heck AJ got her hat from! I did not see a single photo of any pony with a hat on..  
So any one got any more theories about her hat?  
I remember one theory that she got it from her mom, I kinda liked that one.. but it seems like this episode they did not want to present any thing that would conflict with the popular brony mass’s head canons…  
ehh, what ever, ill just try to take the show for what it is and not sweat too much over it.

There were several photos on the wall, not just the American Gothic photo with the mare and stallion in front of the barn with the pitchfork.  
But who says AJ’s parents didnt pose for a photo with a pitchfork in front of the barn? They obviously have a barn, and they seem to go through barns like each seasons fashion, and I’m sure they have several pitch forks to go with them too…

Applejack keeps a tear-stained, crumpled and folded copy of this photo in her pillowcase….

AND THEN A RHINOCEROS ATE THEM AND AJ HAD TO LIVE WITH HER TWO EVIL AUNTS BUT THEN SOME WEIRD PONY GAVE HER A BAG OF ALLIGATOR TONGUES EXCEPT SHE DROPPED IT AND ONE WENT INTO AN APPLE AND GREW REALLY LARGE AND SHE CRAWLED INSIDE AND MET ALL THESE COOL BUGS AND WENT ON A GRAND ADVENTURE TO GET TO MANEHATTAN TO FULFILL BOTH HER AND HER PARENTS DREAM

I’m okay with this.  
People take pictures to “look” liek famous paintings don’t they.
 
A girl can go to photgrapher to take a photo that makes her look like the Mona Lisa.
