The full res is actually :orig. Not large.
Click on the image in the post to enlarge, then right-click, open image. The URL should end with .jpg:large. Then just save as JPG.
It doesn’t work with Twitter posts containing multiple images though, for that I use a different browser with a built-in resource sniffer (window that shows you the list of all files in a page, including full-size images, icons, scripts, etc).
