Really stupid observation: I’m watching an episode in the La Grenouille arc on NCIS at time of writing, lel.

So, as it turns out, “bufogren” is a portmanteau of bufo, the Latin word for toad and the scientific name of the most familiar genus of toads, and grenouille, the French word for frog. Clever.

Echoes of the pilot two-parter, in many ways. It’s really heartening to see the “monsters” portrayed as possible helpers to be reasoned with and to be friendly towards, rather than as impediments to be blasted out of the way.
 
The pilot (and most of S1/S2) pretty much was a different show. And it’s not just because of evolving staff lineups and having more obvious new playset impositions from the corporate overlords, but because the show’s asking very different questions in this series. Ones like “how do we stay friends despite new disagreements and known differences that can be exploited by enemies?”, “how do we become friends with new, yet radically different neighbours”, and “how do we address reactionaries’ xenophobia and bigotry when the problem’s there in some of our existing power structures?”

A new wild monster that talks? Haven’t seen those in awhile.
