I’ve noticed that, during the fact, Trixie seems to be saying, “Thank you.” Has anyone else noticed that?

I feel like this animation should be slowed by about half or so so that it doesn’t look like DoomGuy is smooshing poor Trixie’s head in.

You can adjust the gore. In fact, you can adjust pretty much anything. The customizability and compatibility with all manner of WADs is brilliant.
 
In particular, the variety of melee attacks and having to do precise button combos to gain a health bonus instead of firing a couple rounds, moving in close and mashing the single “glory kill” button is a much better implementation.

So, I know this probably isn’t the best forum to get into this, but…
 
I could never get into DOOM beforehand. I’d tried multiple times. Maybe it was the fact that my first experience was through the 3DO port (Yes, I know, terrible.), but I tried again with Doom 64 (which is great, just not for a 9 year older using their blockbuster rental on it and who didn’t own a N64 memory pak at the time), the XBLA version, Megaman 8-bit deathmatch (which is a game I want to SO desperately love), but… I had no love for Doom. I thought it was gratuitous and I’d rather play like… Wolf 3D if I wanted to get nauseated by a early 90’s FPS. People could love it, that was cool, there were memes around it, but… eh. I’d rather play the 2D Platformers and JRPGs of the era.
 
Now, a game I loved? that I couldn’t get enough of? Metroid friggin’ Prime. exploring strange alien worlds and sci-fi settings as Samus Aran, using audio clues and enviromental hints while Acrobatically dodging to and fro around enemies and environments with a satisfying double jump and movement speed? THAT was my jam, especially since the metroidvania gameplay loop of progression was there, and there wasn’t any major ammo worries besides what missiles you’d consume using alt fires on beams or the missiles themselves!
 
That was the bridge I needed to enjoy Doom finally. Doom 2016, with it’s smartly hidden secrets, it’s maps with verticality and interesting visuals, Doomguy’s ever evolving arsenal, the feeling that you’re never too far in the hole if you run out of pickups thanks to the chainsaw and Glory kill system that makes you feel like you’re Albert Wesker coked up on roids and a couple of rails… Doom 2016 was my gateway drug, my means to look at Doomguy’s previous adventures through a new light, to not worry about Ammo conservation so much and to rip and tear.
 
And yet, underneath the Serios Sam style kill-rooms and the manic action… there’s a chance to have a breather, to have a reason to explore and jump around the maps that isn’t trying to find what part of the stage to step on to trigger a door so you can slip in and get a soul sphere and an ammo backpack. there’s tangible rewards and logical puzzles tied to the secrets, and a wonderful map system that lets you know when you’re getting close to finding a secret!
 
In short, I love Doom 2016 to bits, Luna’s Husbando.
 
Project Brutality is… I feel like it’s turning things up to 11 in the wrong way. I don’t need endless gore fountains and THAT manic of speed to really go on the sort of power fantasy fragfest that I enjoy. Russian Overkill, on the other hand? now THAT is a PK3 I can enjoy ALL the time because of how dumb and bombastic it is without haivng to go nuts.
 
I still kinda wish I knew what I was doing so I could get the Megaman 8-bit deathmatch stuff working with Ultimate Doom and Doom 2’s maps, though. I’d love to best a Cyber demon with some lemons.

NewDoom is a complete joke.
 
Just play Project Brutality+Ultimate Doom Visor instead.
 
Don’t get me started on Quake Champions.
